Recently, the FATF has published the results of its June 2026 plenary meeting, marking strategic progress in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/CFT). The decisions taken strengthen international frameworks, with a particular focus on:

  • Payment transparency (Revision of Recommendation 16),
  • Emerging risks related in particular to cryptocurrencies, streaming platforms, and informal financial systems,
  • Public-private partnerships for information sharing.

These areas of action align with Luxembourg’s strategic priorities in the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.

Implications for Regulated Entities in Luxembourg

Relevant stakeholders (financial institutions, designated non-financial businesses and professions (DNFBPs), supervisory authorities, financial intelligence unit (CRF-FIU), law enforcement and judicial authorities) are encouraged to:

  1. Participate in public consultations (e.g., Recommendation 16 by August 24, 2026).
  2. Anticipate regulatory changes related to reporting on DeFi and VASPs.
  3. Strengthen due diligence measures regarding new risk vectors (social media, hawala).
